First Concert of 2017!

Provo Rooftop Concert Series Returns for Eighth Year

Local Standouts The Aces to Headline Show

PROVO, Utah – Apr 11, 2017 – The Provo tradition that draws thousands is back for another summer of the Rooftop Concert Series, and after four years of opening shows The Aces will headline the concert for the first time.

"Honestly, with the national success and attention The Aces are getting right now, we're sort of afraid we might not get them back on our stage for a while,” said Courtney Kendrick, event co-founder and sponsor.

The local band premiered their debut EP, I Don’t Like Being Honest, this month after signing with Red Bull Records in October. This fall they take off on a busy tour, but Utah will always be where they got their start. The Aces have been playing shows together in Provo since middle school.

“So many of us have watched them literally grow up on stage and they've turned into a very tight, current, pop band,” Kendrick said. “See them now at Rooftop, so you can tell everyone you knew them when."

The show headlined by The Aces and opened by other talented local bands, Foreign Figures and Festival People, is just the first of this year’s packed Rooftop Concert Series. Come back for more music the first Friday of every month this May through September.

"Thanks to Pepsi, Provo City support, and a partnership with UVU we are looking forward to an exciting and surprising 2017 season,” Kendrick said. “We hope to create another series where everyone in our community--young and old alike--come out and enjoy the rich musical experiences we have in our own town. We love to see families at our concerts, teenagers, college students, seniors all together dancing and singing like only we can do in summertime in Provo."

The first concert of this year’s series will be on May 5 at 7:30 p.m. at the NuSkin Plaza on 100 West and Center Street in Provo. Title sponsors this year include Provo City, Pepsi, and Utah Valley University. The Rooftop Concert Series began in 2010 as a part of the Center Focus initiative to revitalize downtown Provo. The series has grown to attract thousands of people per concert and an all-star lineup of local and nationally recognized musicians.

Final show of 2016 - The Lower Lights and SLC Mass Choir

The first year we had a Rooftop Concert, the Lower Lights played and it really set the tone for what we wanted to see at these shows, which is, great music played at the highest level. We had them back the following year. And the year after that. But it's been a couple years since the Lower Lights have played and it's high time we have them back. Our final show of the 2016 season, on September 2, will be The Lower Lights. Opening act, The Salt Lake City Mass Choir. Come hear two very different version of gospel music. This will be an unforgettable night.

Our June 3 show

The Man Who Sold The World. Ziggy Stardust. Aladdin Sane. The Thin White Duke. Few artists manage to leave even one impression on the world, but when David Bowie died earlier this year, he left us with a handful (and that’s not even mentioning his film roles as Warhol, Tesla, and The Goblin King). But even with all the different names, the one that fits the most is this: legend. And, more importantly, he left us with legendary, influential songs. So, to celebrate Bowie’s legendary body of work, wandering spirit, and boundless imagination, we’re excited to present our June 3 Rooftop concert—Let’s Dance: The Songs of David Bowie. Yeah, we can’t wait either. Countdown, engines on.
