FAQ

Should I bring my own chair?
You bet. And we recommend the low-to-the-ground kind. Come relax, and enjoy a beautiful evening under the stars.

I have a band. We’re really good. We have our own microphones. We want to play at the Rooftop Concert Series. Can we?
We’re flattered you want to be a part of our concert series. If you are a great band, getting attention, playing lots of shows and developing a following, and making good, original music, we’ll hear about you and will want to invite you to play.

Are the concerts on Saturday?
Nope. Friday. Always Friday. The first Friday of every month from May through October 2012.

Are the concerts on Tuesday?
Refer to the previous question

Where do the concerts take place?
On top of the Central Bank parking terrace, which is located at the corner of 100 West and 100 North in Provo, Utah, you’re favorite town.

How much do the concerts cost?
That’s what’s so great about this. They are FREE!

What time do the concerts start?
Our official start time is 8pm. We usually have a warm-up band that will start at 7:30 as people settle in. We open the roof to allow people to set up at 6pm.

Can kids come?
Anyone can come. We suggest that before you come to the concerts, you listen to the particular artists that are playing to determine if it’s something your kids would like. Some concerts will be more suited for kids than others. Old people can come, too, but not the cranky ones that are always trying to tell you about how loud the music is and how much their last surgery cost and how come we don’t have anyone from Hee-Haw playing.

Who designs your amazing posters?
So glad you like them. They’re desingned by the brilliant Matt Mildenstein.

Can I help?
You better believe it. If you’d like to volunteer, you can read about that here. If you’re a downtown business and would like to become a sponsor, we’d love to include you. Contact Justin Hackworth. His email is justin@justinhackworth.com

Who are you people?
We are a group of people that care about making Provo a great place to live and spend our time. Our group is made up of a small committee (Sarah Wiley, Mindy Gledhill, Courtney Kendrick, Justin Hackworth) and a handful of enthusiastic volunteers.

Is there anywhere online, say for example, YouTube, where I can see the four of you interviewed by a guy with long hair but during the interview his hair is tied up in a bandana?
Wow. That’s specific. And as a matter of fact, there is an interview that’s just as you describe. It’s here.

Mindy Gledhill, Justin Hackworth, Courtney Kendrick, Sarah Wiley

Is this only for adults or are children invited?. If children are invatid, what age?.
Thanks.

Great question. They are for all ages. Kids are invited. Some of the concerts they might like better than others so it would be a good idea to listen to the artists before you come and see if it’s something you think your children would like.

Hi,

How do you gain acess to the roof for the concert? I wanna go!

Justin May 27, 2011 at 6:14 pm

There are entrances on the East and West side of the parking deck. Once you’re there, it’ll all become very clear. See you there!

We’re excited to come to the concert tomorrow! We were curious if we should come early to get a good spot. How early should one come to the show in order to get a spot with a good view?

The earliest arrivals in the past have been 7pm, but if tomorrow is anything like our previous concerts, if you come at 7:20 – 7:30ish, you should have a good chance of having a fine spot. Remember to bring blankets or chairs to sit on. Have a fantastic time!

How can I have my band play?

Thanks for asking. Our line-up for 2011 is set. This year, we found bands that we felt were unique and really doing something special and we went to them, rather than them coming to us. We really appreciate your interest in the series, and for next year, we’ll just have to see how things shake out. I really recommend that you come to some of the concerts so that you can see if what we are looking for and what your band provides, are the same thing. Thanks.

looking forward to our first-time tomorrow night…do you recommend ‘camp’ vs. ‘beach’ chairs vs. a blanket? and does bringing ‘something refreshing to drink’ include adult beverages? thanks!!

I recommend those low to the ground chairs. Are those beach chairs? Anything will do, really. And a blanket seems like a good choice for kids because they have a little more wiggle room on something like that.

Something refreshing to drink? I’m going to just leave that up to you.

Is there a lost and found for these events? I think I left something at the concert last night.

We didn’t find anything from the Joshua James show, but we do have a single earring, key, and yahtzee game from past shows.

Is this event pet friendly? My little Shih Tzu, Milo is a huge fan of Imagine Dragons, but if need be he can stay home with their album on repeat. :)

Justin September 2, 2011 at 3:05 pm

We think of it more as a concert for people. But if that little Shih Tzu is a good dancer and has concert going manners, then why not. The more the merrier.

I am excited to see Lower Lights on Friday. The weather forecast makes me a little nervous though. Does the show go on if it rains?

Hey!
I heard about this from one of my close family friends from Provo, and thought this was a fantastic idea! You see, I live in Salt Lake City, and I was wondering if you’d be interested in having part of your performance in Downtown SLC! I’m a High School student, and all of the “kids” around here (not to mention a whole lot of other people) need something fun to do on the weekends! We’re sick of getting caught up in bad environments and parties that have alcohol and such, and we love good music! I speak for all of us when I say we’d love to see this up here! Is there any way I, or we, can get involved?? Also, what do you think about making this a year-round thing? We can get sponsors and whatever else you need! Let’s grow this!!

Justin February 28, 2012 at 6:11 am

We’re glad you like the idea. Having part of it in Salt Lake is a fine idea, except the whole reason we’re doing this is to create a sense of community for Provo, and to bring people to downtown Provo to increase business traffic to local businesses. And it would be hard to do it year-round, because the shows are outside and who wants to go to a concert when it’s 10 degrees outside. So, for now, we’ll keep doing it in Provo and trying 6 shows a year.

What time will does the concert end? I’m not sure if I can make it until later, and I want to know if it’ll be worth it to come.

Reply

Justin September 7, 2012 at 3:27 pm

10:15pm is when it will end.

So despite what I read in the FAQ’s section—do I understand correctly that the Lower Lights show is actually on Sunday evening instead of Friday as previously planned?

Reply

Justin October 1, 2012 at 11:20 pm

Hi Emily,

The Lower Lights show is this Friday October 5th. Hope you can come!
